The minute you step on campus as a student you become part of the Yale story – contributing your own unique experiences to centuries of scholarly pursuit. This is a place to share your love of learning – about the world, about other lives, and about yourself. As Yale historian George Pierson observed, "Yale is at once a tradition, a company of scholars, and a society of friends."
In the Classroom
ELI follows Yale’s collaborative model, which teaches students how to think critically and creatively, and helps each student develop specific skills and broad knowledge of American culture. Students participate in class, contributing to a dynamic atmosphere.
Our Residential Colleges
Yale dormitories, called residential colleges, are the foundation of Yale's social and intellectual life. They foster a sense of community and serve as a focal point for both informal and planned activities. Each has a Summer Master who supervises the Yale students who serve as residential counselors. Together they are responsible for the well-being of the summer residents.
Campus Life
In summer Yale forms its own community, supported by a dedicated staff who help students adjust quickly and make the most of their time here. Summer counselors coordinate a wide range of activities on campus and field trips to nearby attractions. The Yale campus is rich in art, architectural, and athletic resources.
Going Off Campus
Yale is situated in the heart of New Haven, which is about two hours from both New York, to the west, and Boston, to the north.
